Nursing and the Political Agenda
Support a Renewed Nursing Research Fund
CNA needs your help to support our campaign to persuade the federal government to renew a 10-year nursing research fund.
The previous nursing research fund, which expired in March 2009, was hugely successful and so we have submitted a proposal – Advancing Health through Nursing Science – for renewed funding. But the proposal itself will not be enough. Politicians need to hear from you about the benefits of nursing research.
More information on the Nursing Research Fund Program is available from the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, as is an evaluation report on the previous nursing research fund.
How you can help
Ask your MP, the minister of health and the prime minister for their support for a renewed nursing research fund. Explain how it improves patient outcomes and leads to a better, more cost-effective health-care system.
- Customize this sample letter.
- Send the letter to your MP, the minister of health, the MP for your institution, or other political representative. Find your MP’s contact info.
- Give or send your representative this CNA “leave-behind.”
- Use this proposal summary for useful background information.
By contacting your representative, you are putting a face on nursing research and helping our politicians understand its importance to Canadians’ health. Your call, letter or meeting could provide the extra persuasion needed to secure the funds and advance nursing care.
Thank you in advance for your support. Please let us know who you contact. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Kathleen McGovern by telephone at 613-237-2133 or 1-800-361-8404 (ext. 357), by fax at 613-237-3520 or by e-mail at kmcgovern@cna-aiic.ca.
