Nursing and the Political Agenda
Nursing Matters
Action Alert: CNA’s Elections2011 website launched!
Dear Members,
With a federal election imminent in 2011, nurses have an opportunity to make a difference to Canada’s medicare system and the well-being of all Canadians.Acting together, Canada’s registered nurses have the power to drive important improvements in health care onto election agendas –such as investing in primary health care, renewing the health accord and improving Canadians’ health.
CNA has launched Elections2011, a one-stop online resource for nurses to take action during the election campaign. Elections2011 identifies key issues important to nurses, and gives you plenty of resources for taking action. What can you do?
- Send a letter to candidates (find prepared letters).
- Participate in town halls (find questions to ask).
- Be prepared to talk with a candidate at your door (find information and tips).
Coupled with constant updates on our Facebook page and Twitter feed, Elections2011 makes it easy for you to get involved – and it gives candidates and leaders the opportunity to clearly spell out their vision for health system renewal, and commit to making it happen.
We need to invest in keeping people well and out of the hospital – to save the health system money and ensure that Canadians receive the right care, at the right time and in the right place. The health of Canadians and the future of medicare are too important to ignore. A quarter of a million registered nurses speaking in a collective voice can make this happen.
