Nursing Informatics
The Canadian Health Outcomes for Better Information and Care (C-HOBIC) project has begun implementation of the collection of standardized patient outcome data related to nursing care in electronic health records (EHRs) in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
C-HOBIC introduces a systematic, structured language to admission and discharge assessments of patients receiving acute care, complex continuing care, long-term care or home care. This language can be abstracted into provincial databases or EHRs. C-HOBIC builds on the Ontario Health Outcomes for Better Information and Care HOBIC program.
E-Nursing Strategy for Canada
The purpose of the e-nursing strategy is to guide the development of information and communication technology (ICT) initiatives in nursing to improve nursing practice and client outcomes. The strategy is intended to:
- consider nurses in all domains of practice – clinical practice, education, research, administration and policy;
- identify what nurses need, take advantage of existing quality products and programs, and reduce duplication of effort;
- benefit individual nurses and their clients, employers, nursing professional and regulatory organizations and the nursing profession as a whole, nationally and around the world.
