Exam Study Groups
Now that you have made the decision to write the certification exam in your specialty, the next step is to prepare.
CNA has developed three resources to assist you.
On the CNA website there is a list of certified nurses who have agreed to mentor nurses like yourself who have chosen to write certification exams. To access the list, go to the certification page and click “mentors” on the sidebar menu.
Second, eligible candidates will receive by mail an access code to the online prep guide. The prep guide includes the exam blueprint, competencies for specialties/areas of nursing practice, practice questions, an answer key and rationales, and a bibliography.
The third resource is a document called Build on What You Know: A Study Group Manual for Nurses Preparing for CNA Certification Exams, which is found in this section. This manual includes tips for study group facilitators and participants, suggested references and other information. Since the resource was developed to help you, we encourage you to use it and to provide feedback. Was it helpful? How can it be improved? Was anything missing? Any information you can provide
