Nurses at the Forefront of HIV/AIDS: Prevention, Care and Treatment

On August 12, 2006, over 200 nurses from 40 countries around the world gathered to identify regional and thematic issues, challenges, innovative strategies and best practices as they relate to the nursing profession’s contribution to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment.
Prominent speakers solidified the importance of the nursing profession’s contribution to HIV/AIDS:
- Stephen Lewis, United Nations Special Envoy on AIDS in Africa
- Minister of Health Tony Clement
- Sister Christa Mary Jones, nurse practitioner and HIV/AIDS activist
- Prof. Sheila D. Tlou, Botwana’s Minister of Health
This forum, an affiliated event of the XVI International AIDS Conference, was organized by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), Canadian Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (CANAC), International Council of Nurses (ICN) and in collaboration with nursing associations from around the world.
