Day of Zero Tolerance
Female Genital Mutilation
The International Day of Zero Tolerance
to Female Genital Mutilation is February 6, 2010
The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) supports and advocates for culturally sensitive and community-based education, research and campaigns to eliminate female genital mutilation (FGM), which are organized by international intergovernmental agencies, non-governmental organizations and civil society.
On February 3, 2010, CNA, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and Action Canada for Population and Development are hosting a forum to discuss the continuing widespread practice of FGM, in advance of the February 6th International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation.
Participants will hear personal experiences of FGM, view the documentary Dabla! Excision and discuss the film with the filmmaker. Information will be shared on the efforts and progress made toward eliminating the practice, and opportunities for further collaboration will be identified.
Attendance is by invitation only. Media are welcome but must RSVP by February 2. For more information about this event, contact Debbie Grisdale 613-237-2133 ext. 517.
