CNA’s Objects
The objects of CNA as defined in the Letters Patent (1996 revision) are:
- to promote high standards of nursing practice, education, research and administration in order to achieve quality nursing care in the public interest.
- to promote uniform and high quality regulatory practices in the public interest and in collaboration with nursing regulatory bodies.
- to act in the public interest for Canadian nursing and nurses, providing national and international leadership in nursing and health issues.
CNA’s Goals for 2010-2014
In pursuit of the vision and mission, CNA has established the following goals:
- To promote and enhance the role of registered nurses to strengthen nursing and the Canadian health system.
- To shape and advocate for healthy public policy provincially/territorially, nationally and internationally.
- To advance nursing leadership for nursing and for health.
- To broadly engage nurses in advancing nursing and health.
- To transform CNA governance structure and processes.
CNA is the national professional voice of registered nurses in Canada. A federation of 11 provincial and territorial nursing associations and colleges representing 146,788 registered nurses, CNA advances the practice and profession of nursing to improve health outcomes and strengthen Canada’s publicly funded, not-for-profit health system.
